PHILOSOPHIES

As the evolution of early childhood development and family studies was develop in between the 6th and 15th century, in the period there wasn’t any importance to a clear understanding about the different growth in childhood. After the 15th century there was a revolution in the 16th century where the puritans felt children shouldn’t be punish physically but be treated with love and kindness, moving on to the 17th century there was a new philosopher whom name was John Locke, he was a philosopher that believe a child is born with a blank brain and he’s beliefs was every parent should be able to mold their children in the way that they would like.

In the 18th century a French philosopher came about by the name Jean- Jacques Rosseau, this philosopher have a different outlook compare to John Locke, Jean- Jacques Rosseau think that a child can think and feel, also his philosophy was more focus on what adults think that a child will need.

THEORISTS

The world have change a lot from the 60’s to the 90’s, as the world enter the 21st century theorist began to have a new outlook on the development of children. These theorist are:

-Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi

-          Friedrich Froebel

-          Maria Montessori

-          John Dewey

-          Jean Piaget

-          Erik Erikson

These theorist believed that children develop physically, intellectually, creatively, emotionally and socially.

-          Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi outlook in his theory in early childhood education is a child learn with their hands, that’s where their sensory and creativity develops.

-          Friedrich Froebel was known as the “father of kindergarten” he had a strong belief that children should be able to express themselves freely, becoming creative and learning to interact with others which he believe that children will be able to unfold their qualities eventually.

-          Maria Montessori theory is how the relationship between a child, materials and the teaching strategies that are use. The environment that a child is in should be very comfortable for a child to be able to learn, she also developed a teaching program that will help a child read and write. Maria Montessori oversight in her theory is having a functioning environment for a child to learn also the teaching strategies should be able to help a child develop their creativity, problem solving and critical thinking. She wanted  each child to have a prepared environment, a child should be able to learn t their own pace, every activities that a child is learning they can be able to explore and have different concepts in every lesson and a child whom could be able to help each other in a lesson will be consider collaborative.

-          John Dewey theory is all about social interaction and preparing a child for real life experience, he believe that schools should be a social institution where children can socialize and learn in different settings.  In a classroom students should be able  to make decisions in what and how their learn, John Dewey outlooks on real life experience for a child  where the  understanding of  ever action have an consequence but at the same time it should be meaningful for  a child to understand the difference between right and wrong. Teachers should be able to learn how each child adapts to a lesson being taught and how to go about using different strategies for their students to understand, reflective thinking is very important for a child to think about what it taught in class and if he/she understand the lesson.

-          This theorist is focus on cognitive development which is Jean Piaget, his theory about a child is their intellectual development which reflect on their thoughts. His theory shows that each child goes through different stages of intellectual development from birth to adolescence to adulthood.

-          Erik Erikson theory is based more on psychosocial development that each conflict that a  child goes through in their lives, he believed that everyone learn through socializing and  look pass conflicts that will help build their skills to last a lifetime. Erik Erikson have different stages development stages which are: Trust vs mistrust, Autonomy vs shame and doubt, Industry vs inferiority, Intimacy vs isolation and finally Generativity vs stagnation. In every stages a person experience conflicts, when a person experience these conflicts in each stage it will be able to determine the development of their personality. In development there are results to people having a social interaction with other and also in their environment, this help build a person to develop skills that can be useful to overcome conflicts.

TEACHER CHARTER

My teacher philosophy is associated with all of those great theorist especially Maria Montessori, as a teacher I will observe each child in my classroom to learn about their personality and the way they absorb a lesson being taught. In a classroom there are percentage of children in a classroom can absorb quickly and there are the other half percentage of the students in the class will learn in their own pace. A  school environment should be a fun and attractive place where they think it is their safe place. Activities that  students should be doing can be very  educational and fun but at the same time  children whom learn at their own pace can adapt to the lesson, when an activity  in a classroom is being taught it should always be interacting and even teach children how to help each other which can build their social skills. In my classroom  I will make my lesson a little tricky so the students will learn to be a critical thinker and develop problem solving skills, with these skills that a child will develop will increase the cognitive development. In the classroom I ensure the students its fine to express their emotions or to understand each other emotions and with those skills in a classroom they will learn how to comfort another person. Using my philosophy in the classroom it have an impact on my beliefs in education understanding everything about a child; the way that they physically grow, socially, emotionally, cognitively develop. In the educational  field,  teachers will realize that every child grows up differently and comes from different backgrounds so  learning  about each child a teacher will have different approach with their teaching skills, communication skills and becoming the role model that a child will be inspired and also a teacher can motivate their students to become successful. Most parents will think why this approach on toddler that are attending kindergarten, while my outlook on toddler in pre-school is  the foundation where children will learn about themselves, grow as intellectually and develop positively as an individual.  Being a teacher is about having the  passion for kids to see them excel and be successful in the future, this age is when parents and teachers should be able to groom and direct the little ones to the right path.
